Shihan Sensei Allen Woodman has been studying martial arts since he was a young child . As a young man he discovered the world of martial arts early on while growing up on a military base outside Tokyo, Japan.
Allen Woodman studied the traditional Martial art of Shotokan Karate for more than 15 years directly with Shihan Sensei Ryuichi Sato, a direct student of Osensei Gichin Funakoshi.
Mr. Woodman received the Honorary title of Renshi Sensei 4th Degree Black Belt and master instructor from Sensei Makoto Nakamura, Sensei Sato`s Top student in 1989. Eventually earning his rank of 6th degree black belt at the Hombu in Japan in 2011.

Allen returned to the U.S.A. in 1981 and began training in other arts. In 1988 he was introduced by long time friend Ted LucayLucay to the Grandmaster of Eskrima Ramiro Estalilla.
He continued training with him until receiving a 6th level Masters Instructors Certificate from the Grandmaster himself in 2011.
Allen has also trained extensively with other Filipino Grandmaster such as Cacoy Canete, Leo Giron, Angel Cabales, and Edgar Sulite and may others.
During early 1986 Sensei Allen became the personal and private student and Uchi Deshi of Shihan Sensei Walter Todd.
Sensei Todd himself was the first Foreign Student to ever receive a Black belt in Japan directly from Funakoshi Osensei in the late 1940's, as well as direct student to Kyozo Mifune, 10th Dan Judo at the Kodokan (Headquarters of Judo), Direct student of Morihei Ueshiba (Founder of Aikido) and Direct Student of Hinori Otsuka (Founder of Wado Ryu Karate). Ulltimately earning ranks of 8th Dan in each art respectively for each art under the oversight of each Instructor.
Allen remained a student under Todd until his death in 1999.

Where most people would be content, Shihan Allen has devoted his life to learning and promoting martial arts as a whole. Upon his return to the U.S.A. he began arranging and performing martial arts demonstrations, events and classes for the Texas State Library system, California School District, and Instructor to members of the Bakersfield, California, Dallas, Texas, New York City, and Los Angeles Police departments. Also instructed select members of the F.B.I. (Federal Buraeu of Investigations), and D.H.S. (Department of Homeland Security).
Never resting in his search for more in depth understanding of martial arts in 1992 Allen was introduced to the great Sosai Mas Oyama and trained directly with him over a two year period just before Oyamas death in 1994. Allen Woodman published the last known interview with the great master Oyama just prior to his death. For this he was inducted in to the World martial Arts hall of Fame in 1996, as Journalist of the Year.
Throughout his career he has always sought out quality instructors and through his good friend Shihan Otto Johnson a Wado practitioner he was introduced to Soke Joe Miller and the Taizan ryu Taiho Jutsu (Police Apprehension Program). After years of study with the founder of the art he eventually earned his Yudansha in another art form. Years later he Co-Authored the first book on Taizan Ryu taiho Jutsu with Soke Joe Miller.
Eventually reuniting and training directly with Shihan Otto Johnson in Wado Ryu, Sensei Woodman was asked to become the technical coordinator for the American Wado-Ryu Renmei by Shihan Johnson in 1994.
As a longtime friend and martial arts colleague of Shihan Johnson, they sat down together and had written out many ideas for the manual of the Wado ryu Federation, “Introduction to American Wado Ryu”.
Later Allen tested and was ranked to 5th Dan in Wado Ryu under Otto johnson and Walter Todd jointly.
